Cystic Fibrosis Canada Partners with Evolve Fitness
Partnership aims to offer cystic fibrosis community and supporters a virtual outlet for a healthier lifestyle
TORONTO (July 28, 2020) – Cystic Fibrosis Canada is pleased to announce its year-long virtual partnership with Nova Scotia-based fitness centre, Evolve Fitness. Members of the cystic fibrosis (CF) community who sign up for a $30(CAD) monthly membership for online fitness classes will see $10 (CAD) of their membership fees donated to Cystic Fibrosis Canada every month, for a year.
To kick off the partnership, Evolve Fitness is offering a free 30-day trial of their virtual fitness classes starting on August 1, 2020. Members of the cystic fibrosis community i.e. people living with cystic fibrosis, their friends and their supporters, are encouraged to sign up for the free 30-day trial by visiting www.evolvefitnessltd.com, and signing up by September 1, 2020. Participants are encouraged to mention “Cystic Fibrosis Canada” when signing up.
“We are very excited about our partnership with Evolve Fitness,” said Carly Schur, Chief Development Officer at Cystic Fibrosis Canada. “Regular exercise has been proven to improve lung function in people living with cystic fibrosis. Staying active has become particularly difficult due to the many restrictions and closures of gym facilities across Canada, so these virtual workout classes present a great opportunity for our community to stay active, and maintain a healthy routine."
Matt Benvie, Owner and Head Personal Trainer at Evolve Fitness, has a personal connection to cystic fibrosis.
“I’ve seen how great the CF community is and how supportive they are.” said Matt. “We are looking forward to giving back, and providing the community with virtual fitness classes to help kick-start or maintain an active lifestyle from the comfort of their own homes.”
Established in 2009, Evolve Fitness is a gym that offers fitness classes for all levels of fitness, and offers a positive and welcoming environment.
The funds donated to Cystic Fibrosis Canada will help fund critical work to improve access to life-changing cystic fibrosis medications, improve quality of cystic fibrosis care and advance cystic fibrosis research in Canada.

About Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting approximately 4,370 Canadian children and young adults. It is a multi-system progressive disease that affects mainly the lungs and the digestive system. In the lungs, where the effects are most devastating, a build-up of thick mucus leads to progressive loss of respiratory function. Mucus also builds up in the digestive tract, making it difficult to digest and absorb nutrients from food. As improved therapies have helped to address the malnutrition issues, ultimately most deaths related to cystic fibrosis are due to lung failure. There is no cure.
