Treatment Adherance
Cystic Fibrosis Canada’s Virtual Education Program for Patients and Caregivers
Cystic Fibrosis Treatment Adherence with Patrick Daigneault
On August 26th, 2015, Cystic Fibrosis Canada hosted its fifth educational webinar in our Virtual Education Program for Patients and Caregivers. Dr. Patrick Daigneault presented on ‘Understanding and improving therapeutic adherence in cystic fibrosis – a pathway to success.’
Dr. Daigneault is a pediatric respirologist in Quebec, where he is Head of the Pediatric Respirology unit and Director of the Pediatric CF clinic at Centre Mère-Enfant Soleil du CHU de Québec. In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Daigneault is Professor at Université Laval and is active in clinical research, with a special interest in CF newborn screening. He is also a current member of CF Canada’s Healthcare Advisory Council. Dr. Daigneault provided an overview of current and future CF therapies and the therapeutic burden on patients’ daily lives. He discussed the importance of therapeutic adherence, and why good adherence is so difficult to obtain. Lastly, he provided a case study from his CF clinic, demonstrating how adherence can be measured and how data can be used to help improve adherence.
Following the presentation, Matthew, a young adult with CF, joined Dr. Daigneault during the Q&A session to share the patient perspective on adherence in response to audience questions.
